West Meadows Raceway Inc. – The Plan

The plan is to apply for race dates to be raced at the new half mile racetrack in Regina in the summer of 2010.
The track was designed after the Delaware County Fair Grounds in Ohio – home of The Little Brown Jug, thought by many to be the fastest half mile track in the world. It features wide, sweeping (5/8 mile) turns with shorter stretches. This newer style configuration is more common now among the higher profile half mile tracks that produce fast miles and are safer and easier on the horses. The racetrack includes a 60 stall barn, a two-storey officials building with mutuels on the lower level, race paddock, and plenty of turnout paddocks. Depending on shareholder capital raised, an infield tote board and possibly a second barn may soon be added. West Meadows Raceway Inc. will be working closely with SLGA through 2009 to finalize plans for a (6 – 8 race day) race meet to be held in 2010 in between the Yorkton and Marquis Downs schedule.

West Meadows Raceway Inc. has received emails and letters from many Regina fans who are excited about the return of harness racing to the Queen City. There is a renewed optimism with the new Saskatchewan Government that there will one day be additional gaming support. Racing annually while keeping the overhead low will be a key focus until the extra gaming support becomes a reality that will include significant expansion.
